FORGET MOTIVATION, REMEMBER DISCIPLINE

True words…note the part about not beating yourself up if the discipline sways sometimes – we’re human just don’t give up…develop your discipline 🙂

2HelpfulGuys

Motivation is overrated.

With every goal I try to reach and every habit I try to internalize, I always start off motivated and eager to climb the ladder to success.

But where is my motivation three months later at 5:45am, looking up at a long day of work after a sleepless night?

Where is my motivation during a horrible week, wrought with upsets and disappointments?

I curl up in bed, knowing full well what I have to do, but my motivation is no where to be found.

Motivation is a feeling. It is sand in your palms, sensitive to even the slightest breeze.

So what force do we use to accomplish our goals if not motivation?

Discipline.

discipline

Courage is not the absence fear, but the ability to go on despite it.

Discipline is not the absence of avolition, but the pledge to push forward regardless of it’s presence.

Discipline is…

The Recalibration Technique

Some wise words here…habit…retrain that brain!

2HelpfulGuys

Habits control every aspect of our entire lives. What time we wake up in the morning to what we consume daily to whether or not we binge eat those cookies are all governed by habits.

What is a habit?

A habit is a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.

As we continually do the same activities every day, our brain becomes accustomed to the same stimulation. It forms strong neural connections, which makes the activity easier and easier to occur.

Eventually, our brain conducts itself automatically. It chooses to take the shortest, simplest path to immediate gratification.

Binge eating cookies is just an automatic habit because our brain knows we love cookies. Smoking cigarettes when we’re stressed are automatic patterns that our brains use because at one time we used cigarettes to cope with stress.

Building strong effective habits are the foundation…

Tuesday rant: Sleep n Sprains

Not enough sleep makes me grouchy as hell and generally not on top form which makes me frustrated.  Some lucky people seem to be able to have 3-5hrs sleep a night and still whizz around sprightly – #jealousmuch.  8 hours a night I need, I do love sleep though, it’s a much better world inside my dreams than it is here. 🙂

Anyway, in addition to my sleep deprivation my sprained ankle has STILL not healed properly.  I should get it checked out.  It seems that doing anything more than walking on it makes it painful and uncomfortable…annoying is an understatement.  In case food stuffs have something to do with it, I found this cool link in my mailbox this morning from mindbodygreen that I thought I’d share:  http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-18643/11-ways-youre-inadvertently-causing-inflammation.html

And while I’m on the links, here is one on the importance of sleep: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/sdd/why

I’m off for an early night… night All..

Who likes the dentist?

I sure as hell don’t.  I haven’t been for years and in my bright brain I thought, hmmm well, I’ll take baby steps towards going and I’ll start with the hygienist… that should be a relatively short, brief introductory into getting in that chair.

Ok so I may be a big wuss but I came out traumatised!

First of all I hate that chair.  Second of all, why the hell do they always use appliances that make that high pitched whining noise that echoes around your head?  They’re the sort of tools you’ve only seen on those dodgy sci-fi movies where you know something bad is gonna happen – and slowly. HATE that sound.  Thirdly, my mouth doesn’t open that wide and who the hell keeps their mouth open that long anyway?  All the while pretty much drowning in your own spit because the lil sucker thing is so not doing its job.

And to top it off?

We ran out of time!  Yup.  Scale and polish and we didn’t even finish scaling!! So I have to go back again. Waaaaaaaa

Lesson learned – don’t use Corsodyl.  My gums sometimes bleed so I tried it out BAD IDEA apparently that sh*t stains your teeth and gets into all the tiny crevices so your hygienist has a job getting it all off.  Brilliant.  It’s going straight in the bin.

Anyone feel like nothing is right?  Using the wrong toothbrush.  Using the wrong toothpaste.  Don’t use toothpaste it’s got fluoride.  Got the non-fluoride toothpaste now my teeth are worse. Don’t use mouthwash it’s got alcohol in it.  Do use mouthwash just without alcohol but it’s got fluoride.  No but fluoride is good it prevents cavities.  No it doesn’t it causes them. Floss. Don’t floss.  Eat. Don’t eat certain things. Don’t smoke.  Don’t drink.  Everything is bad. AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH.

And at the end of it all we probably still have to go to the dentist because we’re all getting older, there’s wear and tear and when / if something gets so painful, we’ll be drudging ourselves along to the place we hate most.

Seriously though – can they not do something about the look and feel of the room ?  Make it more welcoming – putting on those massive shades and lying back with that bright round light in our face does not make us think we’re on a beach relaxing. At least get some tools that don’t make a sound?  Play some music?  Something?!

*sigh* why can’t I just have perfect teeth n gums?

I’m going to lie down.

Don’t give up

Even when it seems every effort is coming to nothing at the moment – trust that it will come together in the end.

Sometimes it feels like you’re doing everything “right” in your mind and your actions and you’re not seeing results but it’s SO important that you don’t stop even if you’re not seeing the results when you’d think you’d see them – they will come.

Trust in that and keep going.

If it seems like there are obstacles blocking you – see them as challenges to see how much you want what you really want and push through them.

You are what you eat – eat what you are

So the saying often goes that you are what you eat but have you ever thought of flipping it?

To eat what you are – to eat foods that resemble parts of our body actually can be beneficial for those parts it resembles! For example, walnuts resemble the brain and research has shown they can be beneficial to brain health, kidney beans – bit of an obvious one – look like kidneys and can help heal and maintain them, grapes resemble the lungs and can reduce the risk of lung cancer and emphysema.

My brother recently introduced me to Erin Janus.com via Facebook and I love her site – she also has an article on this listing more foods, you can check it out here: 10 foods that look like body parts.

Bloating!

I have been looking into what can cause bloating on and off for some time now and there are maaaaaaaaanny different causes but it would be good to be able to narrow it down without having to go through a process of tests or crazy diets to be able to determine what it could be.

Alkaline Diet – A random find

I was having a clear out yesterday and came across a folder that belonged to the previous owners and found a random print out of details for an alkaline diet – how random!  The content is set out very clearly and fortunately the website address was noted on the bottom of the page so I thought I would share it with you.

It sets out a good list of alkalising vs acidifying foods which is super helpful and an easy reference.  It also has a good index at the bottom of the page that provides some more interesting details on the affects of the foods.

Check out the website here:  http://rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm
